When swimming the 34km English Channel, each swimmer is given a window of around a week long when the crossing can be attempted. These windows correspond to smaller tides when the crossing is possible and allows a degree of flexibility given the ever changing weather conditions in the channel.

Each swimmer has their own boat and “pilot” (skipper) allocated to them during this window. The windows for the Channel Dare swimmers are:

Geoff Wilson: 21st to 29th July 2011
Lisa Delaurentis: 25th to 31st July 2011
Ceinwen Williams: 6th to 13th August 2011
Wayne Morris: 6th to 13th August 2011
Andrew Hunt: 5th to 10th September 2011
Paul Downie: 5th to 10th September 2011
Paul Newsome: 5th to 10th September 2011

About Us!

Channel Dare is a group of intrepid swimmers from Perth, Western Australia each training for the 40km English Channel swim in 2011. Raising money for Breast Cancer Care WA, each will undertake their solo swim in windows through July, August and September 2011.

Quick fact: Did you know, more people have climbed Everest than swum the English Channel? It's that tough! Strong currents, cold water, large waves and swell, the extreme distance and quite a bit of water-born 'pollution' make for an extremely tough challenge which only very strong swimmers are able to undertake.
